Mr. Brown’s Boathouse oceanfront cottage on Long Cove, Phippsburg, Maine

Over the tide

Mr. Brown’s Boathouse

3 bedrooms 1 bath Sleeps 6

Built in 1920 by local craftsmen for Wall Street stockbroker Herbert Pomeroy Brown, this cottage sits atop the tidal waters of Long Cove — known locally as Smugglers’ Cove for its Prohibition-era past. A 30' × 30' living room opens to an imposing stone fireplace and a large screened porch with a western view. Immediate access to Casco Bay is by the property’s float. Twelve-foot tides turn the cove into a sandy beach and wading shore at low water. A creek, Devil’s Drean, runs through the property and under the Boathouse where it meets the ocean.
